CBI arrests railway engineer on graft charges

The CBI has arrested a railway engineer accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 for clearing payment of a contractor, officials said today.

Kailash Chand Meena, Senior Section Engineer (Works) NW Railway, was arrested from Nagaur in Rajasthan after he was caught red handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant, a CBI spokesperson said here.

"It was alleged that the Senior Section Engineer (Works), was demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 for measurement of complainant's work and payment of PVC (Price Value Cost) dues," the spokesperson said.

"During a search at the residence of accused, cash of Rs 11.59 lakh (approx); FDRs of Rs 28.32 lakh (approx); NSCs of Rs 5.37 lakh (approx) and sale deeds of three houses at Jaipur, Dausa and Karauli," the official said.
 

The CBI sleuths also recovered documents of two plots at Jaipur and Jodhpur along with other incriminating documents during the search.
