CBI registers case against MCD official for bribing its sleuth

The MCD official, identified by the agency as S K Kaushik, is absconding and a Special CBI court has also turned down his plea for anticipatory bail.

"It was alleged in the complaint that the accused (Kaushik), with the intention to influence the case against him, visited the official residence of the investigating officer of CBI and sought to discuss the case with him. He also offered 'prasad' and 'gangajal'.

"Alarmed by the visit of the accused, the investigating officer refused to talk to Kaushik and asked him to leave the place immediately. The accused, however, insisted upon the officer to accept the 'prasad'. Faced with the persistent refusal by the officer to accept the 'prasad', he left it at the premises of the officer and moved away," the CBI alleged.

 

The officer immediately contacted his superior officers and independent witnesses were called in whose presence the said box of 'prasad' was opened.

The box contained six bundles of of Rs 1,000 each amounting to Rs six lakhs, below two layers of sweets.

The agency said that a search was conducted at the residential premises of Kaushik and evidence related to payment of the bribe was recovered.
