Press Trust of India Bengaluru

Chief Election Commissioner, O P Rawat, who is on a three-day visit to poll-bound Karnataka, today held a meeting with the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police and gave them a slew of directions regarding election preparedness.

The two other election commissioners Ashok Lavasa and Sunil Arora were also present.

Sources in the government said the closed door meeting went on for about two hours where the election commissioners instructed the officials to strictly adhere to the election code of conduct.

Security of the election materials, organising public awareness campaign, usage of election materials, managing resources, including manpower, and the measures to curb malpractices during election were also discussed.

The CEC also inaugurated a photo exhibition at the Chitrakala Parishat, which showcases more than 150 pictures pertaining to the election processes in India such as printing of ballot papers and mustering.

During the occasion, Rawat launched three mobile applications created by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, the municipal body of Bengaluru, providing information about the model code of conduct and answers to the challenges faced by the electoral officers.

He also flagged off a vehicle to create awareness among the voters.

The state will go to polls on May 12.
