Census of Great Indian Bustard begins in Rajasthan

A joint team of Wildlife Institute of India and state forest department has started conducting a census of the Great Indian Bustard, the state bird of Rajasthan, in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur.
Deputy Conservator of Forest Anup K R said, "41 teams have been formed for this work."
Desert National Park (DNP) in Jaisalmer district accounts for majority of Godawan habitation and will be covered extensively in the census.
"The exercise is aimed at ascertaining the exact number of the bird, which is popularly known as Godawan," he added.
