The Centre has in principle agreed to set up a separate high court for Arunachal Pradesh for better supervision, monitoring and control over the subordinate courts.
Official sources here today said Chief Justice Altmas Kabir and Union Law Minister Ashwini Kumar had agreed to Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki's demand for a separate high court for the state in the joint conference of chief ministers and chief justices of high courts in Delhi yesterday.
Tuki,in the meeting,emphasised that the state should have its own independent high court not only for better supervision, monitoring and control over subordinate courts, but also for the convenience of the poor litigants.
The sources said that the Chief Justice was in agreement with Tuki's assertion that the traditional 'Kebang' system, practiced in the state, was doing well in meeting the judicial needs of the panchayat areas and the pendency of cases was negligible.
Recently the Chief Justice inaugurated high courts in Tripura, Meghalaya and Manipur.
