Himachal Padesh Urban Development Minister Sudheer Sharma today said the Centre has approved eight projects with an estimated cost of Rs 217.26 crore for the development of the state's small and medium towns.

"The projects under the Centre's Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small & Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) would be implemented in Rampur, Nagrota, Kangra, Mandi, Manali and Kullu Towns," the minister said here.

He said the state government had requested the Centre to approve 23 other schemes, amounting to approximately Rs 345 crore, pertaining to upgradation of urban infrastructure.

Detailed project reports (DPRs) for these schemes are being appraised by the Centre and it is expected that they would be approved soon, he said, adding that his department's priority is to ensure timely completion of the projects while maintaining the quality.

Keeping in view the state's fragile environment and tourism-centric economy, efforts would be made to present a clean and beautiful environment to the tourists. To ensure this, efforts are being made to improve sanitation facilities in towns and also to beautify them.
