Debbarma, who has been staying in Dhaka, was arrested during a raid by the police following a tip-off, police said.
The top insurgent had set up bases in Sylhet and Chittagong Hill Tract of Bangladesh and had carried out many subversive activities from that country, the police added.
Earlier, intelligence sources here said army intelligence personnel of Bangladesh had raided Debbarma's hideout at Mohammadpur area in Dhaka on December 30 and arrested him, his wife, the couple's 14-year-old daughter and another woman of the outfit, Debika Debbarma.
As there is no extradition treaty with Bangladesh, it is presumed that Bangladesh Border Guards had pushed back Debbarma and Tripura police arrested him from the border.
