Extending yesterday's gain, chana prices rose further by 2.01 per cent to Rs 5,227 per quintal in futures market today as traders engaged in enlarging their positions, on account of higher demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in October advanced by Rs 103, or 2.01 per cent, to Rs 5,227 per quintal, with an open interest of 4,550 lots.

Similarly, the commodity for delivery in September edged up by Rs 88, or 1.72 per cent, to Rs 5,213 per quintal in 11,420 lots.

Analysts attributed the rise in chana prices to surging demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions.
