In the wake of the terror attack at Pathankot air base, Punjab Congress Legislature Party leader Charanjit Singh Channi today questioned the "delay" in response by Punjab Police despite intelligence alert.

"The Home minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal, should tell the people of this nation as to why there was intelligence lapse on the part of Punjab police," he said.

"When there was an alert about a possible terror attack, why didn't the police take it seriously?" Channi added.

Further putting into question the response by state government over the alert sounded by the Superintendent of Police he also asked Badal to reply on the preparedness against militant attacks of the state, which has been struck by terrorists twice within last six months.

"When the Punjab Police SP rank officer who was abducted by the militants gave the senior officials of the Punjab police a warning and narrated the whole story, why was the state police or its officers were not believing the incident, thus not taking it seriously and hence this major tragedy happened," he said.

"This clearly shows the lackluster attitude of the Punjab police for fighting against terrorism and clear groupism in the force due to political inferences. The Home minister should reply on the preparedness of his force for this kind of combat operation in future," he said.
