Charuchandra College principal gheraoed

Students of Charuchandra College in the city today gheraoed the principal for several hours after a Group D employee allegedly committed suicide.

The gherao, by the college students union, began around noon and was lifted in the evening, a college official said.

Police said, the students gheraoed Principal Satrajit Ghosh after the body of Group D staff Som Rai was found hanging in his room, located outside the college compound yesterday.

The agitating students alleged that Rai had killed himself due to non-payment of salary for past two months and misbehaviour by a section of college administration.

The Principal did not speak on the issue.
 

Earlier on March 7, a group of men went on a rampage at Charuchandra College beating up students and vandalising the union room after an alleged dispute over organising a cultural fest.
