Child marriage foiled

The marriage of a 16-year old

girl with a man slated today was prevented in the nick of time by police and Children Protection Cell officials near here.

Acting on a tip-off received by the Childline that the girl was to be married by at Rangasamuthiram, a team including local Inspector Nallu, Children Protection Cell Project Officer Sivakumar and Childline Coordinator Kanakaraj went to her house and stopped the wedding after talks with her parents.

They obtained a written undertaking from the girl's father that he would marry her off only after she completed 18 years of age, police said.
