China has banned reality shows starring celebrity kids on state-run television channels over allegation of their misuse and protect the rights of minors.

Reality shows starring celebrity kids are no longer allowed to be produced and broadcast on TV, a circular released by China's media regulator said.

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) announced the ban, saying reality shows must be "strictly controlled."

Some local TV stations have already cancelled programs starring celebrities and their children, including the popular "Dad! Where Are We Going?" and "Dad Came Back," following the SAPPRFT's announcement, state-run Xinhua news agency reported today.

SAPPRFT statistics show that in 2015 over 100 entertainment programs were broadcast on TV nationwide, many of which were reality shows featuring children, generating over 10 billion yuan (USD 1.55 billion) in advertising revenue.

In July 2015, the SAPPRFT issued a similar document limiting the participation of minors for their protection.
