A Chinese man was today sentenced to death in a triple murder case by a local court in southern China.

The Liuzhou Intermediate People's Court in the southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region found He Jian, the defendant, guilty of three counts of murder and sentenced him to death.

The trial only lasted for half a day.

The court upheld the prosecution's evidence that He stabbed two senior citizens to death in January 2013.

The court also believed he robbed and killed his wife's colleague in March, 2014.

According to the court, He bought his wife a ring with the money robbed from the victim, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The court said He's crimes were extremely cruel and his intentions were extremely evil.

The court refused to mitigate He's punishment.

He said that he would not seek to appeal the verdict.
