Congress today alleged that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had lacked the spine to face the charges against him and his kin as mentioned in the no-confidence motion introduced by the opposition party earlier this month in the Legislative Assembly.

The House had been adjourned sine die on July 11 as the deputy leader of Opposition Congress revolted and thwarted discussion on the motion before joining the ruling party.

Holding a parallel session of the Assembly billed as "Avishwas Sabha" (no-confidence meeting), the Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh said, "Chouhan was worried over the issues raised by Congress in the no-confidence motion and therefore dithered from facing the opposition (in the House)".

Ajay said that the no-confidence motion listed charges against Chouhan, his wife Sadhna and their relatives.

"Since he does not want them to get exposed in the House and become a part of Assembly proceedings, BJP did not allow the House to debate it (the motion) by suppressing the democratic rights of the opposition," alleged Ajay.

He said that the people of the state will never forgive BJP for running away from the debate on the no-confidence motion.

Ajay said the state government was not recommending a CBI probe into the alleged Pre-Medical Test (PMT) scam as BJP leaders were involved in it.

He described Chouhan's 'Janashirwad Yatra', commencing from tomorrow in Ujjain, as a "political stunt".
