Christ Chruch school reopens; ex-Principal stays away

Christ Church Girls' High School, which was closed down following vandalism after the death of a student, reopened today after a fortnight.
However, its former principal Helen Sarkar, who was allegedly forced to resign following the student's death, did not resume duty.
"Today the school was opened officially and normal classes were held," secretary West Bengal Association of Christian Schools Father Moloy D'Costa said.

Asked whether Sarkar had rejoined, he said, "We are unaware whether she has or not. The assistant headmistress is currently working as the acting principal."
Sarkar had alleged that the police and the mob, which vandalised the school, had forced her to resign.
All Christian Missionary schools across the state were closed on September 19, observing it as 'black day' in protest against the ransacking of the school.
