The CID has failed to file a charge sheet in the June 8 rape and murder of a college student in Kamduni within the deadline promised by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

"We have not submitted the charge sheet in the gang-rape and murder case. Hopefully by the end of this week we will be able to submit it," ADG (CID) Sivaji Ghosh told PTI today.

The charge sheet was not filed as the report of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in the case was not yet available.

"We are yet to get the CFSL report after we get it we will submit the charge sheet," Ghosh said.

The Chief Minister, during her June 17 visit to Kamduni village in North 24 Parganas district adjoining the metropolis, had promised that the charge sheet would be filed withing '7-8' days.

The brutal incident had led to a hue and cry by Opposition parties and intellectuals.
