The local Chapter of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) today welcomed Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for announcing a Rs 700 crore cluster for rehabilitating around 900 small and marginal dyeing units in the region facing problems due to environmental issues.
Besides providing jobs, the measure would augment the domestic production of handlooms and textiles to the tune of Rs 7,000 crore while containing the pollution caused by the dyeing and bleaching units, CII Erode Chairman S K N Shree Sivakumar said in a release here.
He also appreciated her announcement that the scheme would be commenced this year itself and completed within three years.
CII also thanked Environmental and Pollution Control Minister Thoppu N D Venkatachalam for taking up the issue with the Chief Minister.
