Clash, arson after youth shot dead

A 26-year-old youth was allegedly shot dead over an old enmity in Kharvai village in Mandhata area today triggering a caste clash and arson.

Devesh Pratap Singh alias Rohit Singh was allegedly shot dead by a group of Dalits over the old enmity after which the upper caste Thakurs of the village went on a rampage torching five Dalit houses, Additional SP (West) Swaminath said.

Fire tenders were rushed to the village to douse the fire, he said, adding that the body has been sent for post mortem.

Additional forces have been deployed in the village to bring the situation under control and the matter is being investigated, he added.
