A Commercial Tax officer was caught red handed, while allegedly accepting bribe to show some official favour here today.
Mohanambal, during a visit to a workshop in Avarampalayam told the owner that he had not filed returns for a particular year and the department would have to impose huge penalty and reportedly sought Rs 50,000 to cover up the issue, police said.
Though the owner, Karuppasamy said that he was update in filing the returns, she insisted for money and he reported the matter to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption wing of the police, who laid a trap.
Accordingly, Karuppasamy handed over Rs 25,000 to Mohanambal and the officials caught red handed, police said.
