Uttar Pradesh government has approved a Rs 1,700 crore plan for the overall development of Agra as a tourist destination, the state's Minister for Tourism, Om Prakash Singh, said here today.
Speaking at the inauguration of an air-conditioned toilet facility at Taj Mahal on the occasion of World Tourism Day, Singh said that the state government was looking at improving the condition of Agra to make it a more attractive destination for tourists.
He said that UP government had received a USD 410 million package from World Bank for the development of tourism in the state and added that the state Cabinet had cleared the Rs 1,600 crore Agra-Lucknow Greenfield Expressway project.
The project for an international airport at Agra, too, has been okayed, he added.
Aridaman Singh, the UP Minister for Stamp, Court Fee and Civil Defence, who was also present on the occasion, said better air connectivity would make it easier for tourists to visit Agra.
