Compensation not taken back from riot-affected victims:UP govt

Official said there was only one such case in which a man had wrongly taken the compensation

The Uttar Pradesh government today dismissed reports in a section of media that compensation was taken back from riot-affected victims in Shamli district.

"There are reports that compensation is being taken back from the people in Shamli which is not true," Special Secretary (Home) Arun Mishra told reporters here.

He said there was only one such case in which a man had wrongly taken the compensation.

"One person named Maqsood wrongly took the compensation which was revealed in an inquiry by the local administration," he said adding the money was taken back from him.
