The Giridih district administration today handed over cheque worth one lakh rupees to each of the bereaved families, who lost their loved ones after a trailer-truck had ploughed into an idol immersion procession, killing twelve persons in the district last night.

Bagodar Sub-divisional Officer Narendra Gupta said the cheques were given to the families at their door step.

The ex-gratia was announced by Chief Minister Raghubar Das soon after the mishap.

Fifteen persons, who were injured in the accident, were being treated, hospital sources said.

The mishap took place on the Giridih-Bagodar Grand Trunk Road.
