Congress today asked the Election Commission to take action into several complaints it has filed against BJP for allegedly "openly flouting law" and violating Model Code of Conduct, including in Varanasi where Narendra Modi is contesting.

The Congress also urged the EC to take all preventive and other measures to ensure maintenance of law and order and conduct of peaceful poll in Varanasi and other constituencies on May 12.

"They (BJP) have torn all rules and the rule book. It is rather unfortunate that they believe in dictating and imposing their own way, even, enact their own code and methodology," alleged K C Mittal, Secretary of AICC legal department, said in a letter to the EC.

"Narendra Modi and BJP, with all due respect, have forgotten that it is an election at Varanasi, one of the parliamentary seats, and not an election of India," he said in the complaint.

Besides, he alleged that the BJP has brought thousands and thousands of people from all over India to create law and order problems in Varanasi.

"They had no permission for yesterday's roadshow but conducted with the help of outsiders despite prohibitory orders," he alleged.

He said Congress made many complaints to the Commission and if "timely action had been taken against them, they would perhaps had some respect for the law and code for conduct of fair poll and maintenance of level playing field".
