Cong delegation meets J&K guv over upcoming polls

A delegation of the called on on Tuesday and put forth the party's concerns relating to the upcoming panchayat and urban local bodies polls in the state.

The delegation, led by party state G A Mir, met Malik at the Raj Bhavan here. The members expressed their concerns and shared their views on various aspects of these elections, an said.

A spokesperson, meanwhile, said the party held meetings on Tuesday to discuss about the participation in the polls. "Another meeting will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) after which the party will announce its decision."

Malik emphasised the importance of empowerment of people through the establishment of local self-governing institutions, which would strengthen democratic framework at the grass-roots level and ensure direct participation of people in the development programmes of their villages and towns, the added.
