Congress today demanded adequate rehabilitation and compensation for the victims of the May 25 Ballabgarh clash between two communities over construction of a religious structure in Faridabad.

"We urge the Centre to take steps to ensure that the villagers affected by the Ballabgarh clash are rehabilitated and compensated at the earliest," Congress leader Hussain Dalwai stated in a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

"It is my request that the Central government should take proactive steps to assure minorities protection and support at times of distress and violence," he said.

The Rajya Sabha member, who visited the affected village in Haryana's Ballabhgarh today, insisted that the Haryana government should ensure construction of the religious structure that was in the row.

He said that the violence appears to be triggered in a "well-planned" manner by "few anti-social elements", most of whom Dalwai claimed were from outside the village - in the run up to panchayat elections scheduled there next month.

"There has been no statement from Haryana CM Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, neither has Faridabad MP Krishan Pal Gujjar, who is (Union) Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment visited the victims," Dalwai said.

The Parliamentarian expressed concerns that no arrest has been made in connection with the matter as yet and added the same was the cause of villagers' reluctance to return to their homes.

The clash victims have been staying at a makeshift camp at Ballabhgarh police station after violence erupted there.

At least five persons were injured and around 15 houses gutted after a clash erupted between two communities over construction of a religious structure in Atali village in Faridabad on May 25, following which the district administration has beefed up security.
