A delegation of Congress Friday met Maharashtra DGP Datta Padsalgikar here and sought action against the policemen in Solapur, who allegedly assaulted party workers for showing black flags to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy earlier this week.
The prime minister was in Solapur on January 9 to launch various development projects. He dedicated four-laning of Solapur-Osmanabad section of NH-211 and also laid the foundation stone of 30,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY).
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Sawant said the delegation demanded that the "guilty" police officers be punished for the use of force on the peaceful protest.
"The police action is a blot on the democracy," he said adding that the delegation members met the DGP sporting black bands.
"The DGP expressed regret over the incident and said Special IGP Vishwas Nangre Patil will probe the incident. He also assured action after the report is submitted," Sawant said.
