Congress and NCP are likely to join hands for the upcoming Kalyan-Dombivili municipal corporation (KDMC) polls.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Ashok Chavan said talks between local leaders of the two parties are on.

"NCP state unit chief Sunil Tatkare called me with the proposal for a pre poll alliance. We are open to the proposal and talks are on between leaders of the two parties local units," he said.

Chavan said Maharashtra Congress has called for a meeting on October 4 and 6 to discuss the local body polls for Kalyan-Dombivili and Kolhapur municipal corporations and other nagar panchayat, nagar parishads and gram panchayat polls in the state.

The voting for these polls will take place on November 1 and counting of votes on the next day.

"We will assign responsibilities to all state leaders to ensure that the party's performance in these elections is good," Chavan added.

NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said talks between Congress and NCP leaders to finalise the tie up.

"Price rise will be an important election issue," he said adding that the BJP is fast losing support at the grass-root level.
