Congress today slammed the PDP-BJP coalition for imposing additional VAT on petroleum products in Jammu and Kashmir, terming the policies of the government as against the people's interests.
While criticising the move to increase VAT on petroleum products, the state unit of Congress said that it would further increase the burden on the common people of the state, who are already suffering due to the continuous inflation.
"As a result of the hike in VAT by the state government, prices of petrol and diesel will go up," Congress spokesman Ravinder Sharma said here.
"When the prices of all essential commodities are already touching the sky and have seen manifolds increase in the recent period, the increase in the rate of diesel and petrol by the state government is totally unjustified and against the interest of the people," Sharma added.
