Congress would soon launch a programme to reach out to Dalits in Telangana, the partys state unit presidentN Uttam Kumar Reddy said here today.

Addressing a meeting of Telangana Congress Committee's Scheduled Caste department, heurged the activists to strive for taking the party closer to the Dalit community under the programme, named 'Dalitula kosam Congress' (Congress for Dalits).

He asked the party workers to finalise the details of the proposed programme.

The PCC president saidDalits and Scheduled Tribes had supported the ruling TRS in the 2014 Assembly elections as the party had made tall promises to them.

But Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has 'failed' to fulfil the promises, includingmaking a Dalit leader as Chief Minister, providing three acres of land to poor Dalit families and providing 12 per cent reservation for STs, he alleged.

Congress, the main opposition, would raise the three acres of land and other issues in the Budget session of state Legislative Assembly beginning March 12, Reddy said.

Meanwhile, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) held a meeting here this evening to discuss its plan of action for the session.

The meeting discussed the possibility of fielding its candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections from the state, sources said.
