Senior Congress MLA Manas Bhunia, who was on an indefinite fast demanding arrest of the culprits involved in the murder of Chatra Parishad activist Krishnapada Jana in West Midnapore district last month, today withdrew his stir, claiming that he has been instructed to do so by party President Sonia Gandhi.
"I have been on a fast since September 16. Today I am withdrawing my fast following instruction from Congress president Sonia Gandhi. We will intensify our movement in days to come against this anarchic state government," Bhunia claimed.
He, however, alleged that the district police was arresting those who have sought justice in the case of Jana while culprits go scot-free.

"Those, who are the main culprits, are roaming free and those who are seeking justice are either harassed or arrested," Bhunia said.
The Congress students' wing Chatra Parishad had called a shutdown across Bengal on August 18 last to protest the killing of Jana.
