In an apparent move to initiate action against him, Congress today said the party is formally writing to Manas Bhunia seeking to know whether he has joined TMC.
Congress legislature party leader Abdul Mannan told reporters here that Bhunia should make his position clear (regarding joining TMC).
Bhunia had yesterday said, "Today I have joined the real Congress, that is Trinamool Congress. The Congress with which I was associated for 46 years is completely ruined because of (AICC General Secretary) C P Joshi, Adhir Chowdhury and Abdul Mannan".

Stating that it was immoral to defect after winning election on the symbol of another party, Mannan said they would move the Supreme Court seeking amendment to the Anti-defection law.
"We will move the apex court to stop such unfair practice," he said.

Congress MP from Jangipur Abhijit Mukherjee described the resignation of Manas Bhunia as a big loss to the party.
"It is very unfortunate that Manasda has left the party. He had some grudges and demands which could not be sorted out. It is undoubtedly a big loss to our party," Mukherjee told reporters at Mirati in Birbhum.
"Our party leadership including central leaders had talked to him, I myself tried to convince him but nothing could change his mind," he said.
He expressed hope that those who have joined TMC and considered it as part of Congress, "will all return back".
