State unit of the ruling Congress today cut a cake and distributed fruits and sweets among people to celebrate the 69th birthday of AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
Congress leaders and workers gathered at Rajiv Bhawan, the state party headquarters here, to celebrate the occasion with fervour.
Party workers shouted slogans like "Sonia Gandhi zindabad" and "Congress party zindabad" as a cake was cut to mark the occasion.
Congressmen then formed separate groups to distribute fruits and sweets among patients at the Doon hospital, Doon women's hospital and an old age home in the city.
The women's wing of the Congress under the leadership of State party president and MLA Sarita Arya distributed fruits and essential items to elderly citizens at 'Prem Sukhdham Ashram' in Laxman Chowk.

In Amethi too, Lok Sabha seat of Rahul Gandhi,
celebrations marked the birthday of the Congress president, including the party's local headquarter at Gauriganj and all its block offices.
Party activists spoke of different activities of the party president including her contribution to Indian politics.
Also some pary workers distributed fruits among patients in hospitals.
In Gauriganj, poetry recitation ('kavi sammelan') was organised by the district committee of party.
