Contraband worth Rs 2.5 crores seized in UP

Three smugglers were arrested by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police from Basti and contraband worth Rs 2.50 crores was recovered from them.

On a tip-off, STF team nabbed three persons at Amhat culvert in Basti around noon and upon searching them recovered 8 kg charas, the STF said.

Those arrested told police that they used to get the contraband from one Vishnu of Chanrauta, Nepal and supply it to his contacts in Haryana and Kairana in Uttar Pradesh, they said.

They also said that the earlier consignment sent packed in stabilisers, loudspeakers and wheat sacks was intercepted by the STF and so this time they were carrying it hidden on their bodies.
 

An election I-card, four mobile phones, five sim cards including two of Nepal and some cash were also recovered from them, they added.
