Convicted advocate booked for continuing legal practice

An advocate, whose registration has been suspended by the State Bar Association following his conviction in a case, has been booked for continuing with his practice, police said today.

According to API S A Vaidande of Thane Nagar police station, advocate Ajit Hariram Lakhani was booked on the complaint of one Rani M Sahani, a resident of Kopri colony in Thane East where the accused also lives.

As per the complainant, Lakhani continued with his legal practice, prepared documents during May and August this year thus cheating the court and citizens, the officer said.

Lakhani has been convicted in a case relating to section 354 and 509 of the IPC (both relating to assault or criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage or insult her modesty) Vaidande said.
 

The advocate has been booked under provisions of sections 419, 420, 471, 416, 417 and 418 of the IPC and also section 45 of the Advocate Act 1961 and also Rule 9, Chapter III part 4 of Bar Council of India Rules, she added.
