Copper prices edged higher by 0.73 per cent to Rs 411.40 per kg in futures trade in evening session today, as speculators created fresh positions amid a firming trend at the London Metal Exchange (LME).
The exchange opened for the evening session as it remained closed in the morning for 'Maharashtra Day'.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in June month rose by Rs 3 or 0.73 per cent to Rs 411.40 per kg in business turnover of 2,585 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in far-month August contracts traded higher by Rs 2.85 or 0.69 per cent to Rs 416.05 per kg in 50 lots.
Globally, copper for delivery in three months gained 0.2 per cent to USD 6,347 a tonne on the LME.
Market analysts attributed the rise in copper futures to a firm global trend where base metals led by lead climbed.
