Cops asked to pay fine for using mobiles in court hall

Two constables, who did not switch off their mobile phones in the court hall of the Madras High Court, have been directed to pay a fine of Rs.250 each, the amount going to the flood relief fund.

Justice S.Vaidhyanathan imposed the fine on the two policemen whose mobile phones rang, causing disturbance to court proceedings.Their mobile phones were seized and they were asked to pay Rs.250 as fine.

The order banning use of mobile phones inside the court hall had been put on the notice board outside.

The normal procedure is that the mobiles would be seized and the owner should meet the Registrar and give an undertaking that they would not use it inside the hall and get it back. Now fine has been imposed to help people affected by the rains in Chennai and other places.
