Corporates' CSR initiatives should be focussed: Raje

CSR initiatives of corporate houses should "focus either on regions or sectors" to be more effective, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vashundhara Raje said today.

Raje, who met a large number of corporates here in the run-up to Resurgent Rajasthan Partnership Summit, added that the attempt of some companies to replicate government programmes has a limited impact since the interventions are small and sporadic.

"To make an impact, the efforts should be concentrated with focus either on regions or sectors," an official release quoted her as saying.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a meeting on 'Sustainable Partnerships for CSR in Rajasthan', convened by the state government at SMS Convention Centre.

Raje added that though companies are now required to contribute 2 per cent of their profits to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), they should come forward to contribute more.

She said that in Rajasthan, her administration believed in the dictum of "maximum governance, minimum government".

Governments are shrinking in size and are increasingly partnering with private businesses and civil society for job creation, skill development and prosperity, she said.

She also announced the 'Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan', under which the government will create "a water sustainable Rajasthan" through crowd-funding and community engagement.

This is hugely important since Rajasthan is the largest state in the country but has only a little over one percent of the country's water resource.

The movement would be initiated on January 26 next year.
