Corporator arrested for attacking cop during Oct 12 arson

Sitting corporator Pawan Chandrakant Pawar was arrested for allegedly assaulting a policeman during protests by locals on October 12 here in the wake of alleged rape attempt of a minor girl at a village in Igatpuri here, police said today.

Pawar was held yesterday and was produced before a local court which sent him to four-day police custody till October 27, in-charge of Nashik Road Police Station, Sanjay Deshmukh said.

On October 12, Pawar had allegedly manhandled a police constable amid protest by villagers over the incident in Nashik after police asked him to keep away from protest spot.

The officer said, Pawar, corporator from ward no. 35, also received injuries in the incident and was admitted at Nashik Civil Hospital here since October 12.
 

His anticipatory bail was rejected yesterday and was arrested after he was discharged from the hospital.

Nashik city and adjoining places had witnessed angry protest, incidents of stone pelting and arson after a 5-year-old girl in Talegaon village was allegedly sexually harassed by a 16-year-old boy on October 9.
