Couple arrested for selling child, taking it back

A couple from Virar has been arrested for selling their new-born child to a woman, and later abducting it back.

Ayesha (22) and Shakeel Khan (23) were arrested yesterday.

When Ayesha was pregnant, the couple entered into an agreement with a woman called Poonam to sell their child to her for Rs 1.50 lakh, Virar police station's sub-inspector A P Bhagat said.

When the child was born on January 15, it was sold. However, later the couple abducted the child back from her, her complaint says.

Police have lodged a complaint of cheating and further probe is on.
