A couple was buried alive when their house was crushed by a landslide triggered by heavy rains near here, police said today.
The incident took place last night in Simhagiri Colony under Gajuwaka Police Station limits in the district. The deceased were identified as S Prakash Rao (55) and his wife S Pydiamma (50).
The couple was living in a house with asbestos rooftop at the base of a hill, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Gujuwaka) G B R Madhusudhan Babu said here.
Due to sudden cloudburst last night, there was a landslide and boulders rolled down the hill and buried the couple at around 11.30 pm.
On getting information from the locals, the Gajuwaka Police led by Inspector M Appa Rao reached the spot and retrieved the bodies at about 2 am today.
