A married couple who had allegedly abducted a two-year-old boy from south Delhi's Vasant Kunj has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police with the child having been rescued from their custody.

According to police, a complaint was received on September 20 about a two-year-old boy having gone missing from the Vasant Kunj area.

Following inquiries it had emerged that the boy was last seen with a married couple who had rented a room in the area around four months ago.

The couple were not seen after the boy went missing, said a senior police official.

When records were checked and neighbours questioned, it emerged that the couple had come from Chhapra town in Bihar.

A Crime Branch team was sent to Chhapra which, upon reaching there, found that the couple had left for Delhi again.

The duo was arrested yesterday from New Delhi's Connaught Place area and the abducted boy was rescued by the police.

During interrogation, the accused woman told police that this was her second marriage. She said that they wanted to have children of their own but she could not conceive.

In late 2012, the couple had found an abandoned baby in a park in Gurgaon and adopted it. But the child, aged less than one year, succumbed to an undiagnosed disease, said a police official.

They had returned to their native place after that but returned to Delhi earlier this year and rented the room at Vasant Vihar, said the official.

At Vasant Kunj, they befriended the family of the two-year -old boy and often used to take the child out with them and so there were no immediate suspicions excited by them.
