A local court today sentenced a man to seven year and nine months' imprisonment after convicting him in a dowry-related death case two years back in Kendrapara district.
Additional District and Sessions Judge, Kendrapara, Kirti Chandra Barik, convicted Dillip Nayak (24) under Sections 498-a, 304 (b), 306, 406 of Indian Penal Code and section-4 of Dowry Prevention Act.
The convict had married Jharna Das who ended her life on February 5, 2013, less than a year after the marriage.
According to the prosecution, Jharna was subjected to physical and mental torture on dowry which forced her to end her life.
