"I do not know, nobody has spoken to us and it is not as simple. Some names have been let out and they must be discussed. Let us wait. The Left parties will meet and assess the situation," CPI National Secretary D Raja said.

Raja said it is not known whether these names have become final names on behalf of UPA.

Congress said it prefers Pranab Mukherjee and Hamid Ansari as the first and second choice for the post while its allies Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress sprang a surprise by proposing the names of A former President A P J Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.
