CPI-ML (Liberation) today hit out at SP and BSP for extending outside support to Congress-led UPA government and "helping a corrupt and anti-people regime survive".

"Samajwadi Party, which is in power in Uttar Pradesh, and BSP, which continues to be a major force despite having been voted out of power, have acted as saviours of a government which does not deserve to remain in power. This is shameful," CPI-ML (Liberation) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya told reporters here.

Bhattacharya, who was in the city to take part in the party's three-day state committee meeting beginning today, said, "The country needs to go to polls as soon as possible... It can only pave way for replacing the corrupt regime, which is beholden to corporate interests and anti-people in its outlook, with a truly democratic government."

"The 2G scam and other corruption scandals the UPA finds itself mired in are, in fact, inevitable consequences of a skewed ideology wherein interests of big business take precedence over the needs of common people," he said.
