The CPI(M) today attacked the BJP over lynching of a senior police official in Jammu and Kashmir, saying such incidents are becoming a "regular feature" in states ruled by the saffron party.

Taking to Twitter, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury also expressed commiserations to the family of the officer, Mohammad Ayub Pandith.

"Lynching of citizens is becoming a feature of BJP-ruled states. Commiserations to the family of the lynched police officer. #Kashmir (sic)," Yechury tweeted, without citing any other incidents.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Pandith was stripped naked and stoned to death by an irate mob after he allegedly opened fire at a group of people who caught him clicking photos near a mosque in downtown Srinagar in the early hours of today.
