Crackers burst past midnight, air quality deteriorates

Defying the Supreme Court's deadline, people in and some key cities of burst firecrackers past midnight, resulting in a 'very-poor' (AQI).

A senior police official, when contacted, denied that the illegal firecrackers were sold in their area and emphasised that most of the crackers used were purchased from outside the state.

He said strict patrolling was carried out by the UP police to ensure that high-decibel and smoke-causing articles were not sold.
