Various penal offences including murder, rape, loot and dacoity in Uttar Pradesh have come down drastically in the past six months, Director General of Police OP Singh claimed said.
In over past six months, the crime rate has fallen drastically in the state, the DGP told reporters here.
Citing official data, the state police chief said, "While dacoity has come down by 36.96 per cent, loot has reduced by 19 per cent, murder by one per cent, burgalry by 12.84 per cent, balwa (riots) 6.94 per cent, kidnapping for ransom by 8.7 and rape by 6.91 per cent between Jan 1 to July 15 this year."
The state police has succeeded in arresting 5,677 criminals, including 2,068 reward-carrying offenders, he said, adding 62 were killed in encounters.
"We are focusing on basic policing and ensuring visibility of the force and have succeeded in bringing down the response time of the police," he said.
