The CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) here today launched a unique research training programme for medical students.

CCMB Director Rakesh Kumar Mishra, who inaugurated the 'Medical Student Research Training Programme (MedSRT)', claimed that the training programme is a first of its kind event in the country.

Noting that research in human health is the need of the hour, he said the programme provides hands-on training to young medical students.

"It is designed to address the gaps in the current medical curriculum and to ensure that aspiring clinicians are appraised of the latest basic research methodologies and how they can be applied in clinical problems," an official release quoted him as saying.

The programme includes "lectures and hands-on training on five research areas of bioinformatics, DNA and RNA based techniques, cell biology, proteins and immunological techniques", Mishra said.
