Curfew which was imposed in Manipur's Imphal West and Imphal East district by the authorities since July 8 last was today lifted according to orders issued by concerned district magistrates.
However, there would be restrictions under section 144 CrPC 1973 prohibiting assembly of five or more persons and carrying of sticks, stones, and objects which could be used as weapons, the orders said.
Curfew has been lifted today after being in force for 26 days following the death of a student in police action on July 8 last during the on going agitation launched by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) demanding implementation of inner line permit system.
Though the curfew was imposed July 8 but from July 13 it was relaxed from 5 am to 4 pm everyday and and was only in force at the night.
