Leader of Daman Pratirodha Manch Dandapani Mohanty, jailed on charges of sedition and Maoist links, was today released from the circle jail here after remaining in prison for around 34 months.
The Orissa High Court granted him conditional bail on December 1.
The conditions include he cannot become vocal favouring or supply logistic support to banned organisations, he cannot leave the jurisdiction of the trial court without its permission and commit any other offence during the trial.
Sixty-four-year Mohanty, while coming out of the jail, tied a black cloth in his mouth and held a placard in his hand.
In the placard, it was written that he will show respect to the High Court order and asked the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik why he is intolerant to his (Mohanty's) family.
His son Sangram Mohanty, who was also arrested for his Maoist links activities, on December 5, 2012, was granted bail by Supreme Court in last February.
"I had fought for the cause of the poor and downtrodden people and will do the same," said the placard.
He declined to say anything to waiting reporters.
Mohanty had negotiated with the Maoists and helped the Odisha government resolve two abduction cases in the past.
He was the interlocutor when the then Malkanagiri Collector R Vineel Krishna was held hostage between February 17 to 26 in 2011 and again when two Italians, Polango Cloudio and Basacco Paulo, were kept in confinement between March 14 and April 12, 2012.
Mohanty was arrested from his residence at Shanti Nagara here on charges of his alleged involvement in Maoist activities and sedition and waging war against the state and under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
While he has been acquitted by the trial court in 19 cases, the High Court has granted him bail in another case, said Mohanty's advocate Deepak Patnaik.
As per condition of the bail, he deposited two securities of Rs 50,000 each to the court, he said.
